(Part of a poem by Berton Braley) The first meeting of the fall season for Epsom-Utica U.C.W. was held Tues. even- ing at Epsom Church. The meditation was on Mary of Jerusalem, the mo- ther Mark. Here home was a meeting place for Christ- ians, before and in the dark days after the Crucifiction. In the correspondence were "Thank You" notes from Mr. and Mrs. ThorminMrs. Chris Ruhl and The Geer family. We discused projects for making some money in the coming year. In persuing our study of the Canadian Indian, a letter was read that had been writ- ten by an Indian woman in a city and her problems while on relief and when her hus- band wasn't working. Mrs. Jeffery read the poem (in full), 'Teach him Gently' if you can. Mrs. Slute read &@ poem 'Strength for to-day'. Group 1 served lunch and we all enjoyed a social hour. Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Jef- fery enjoyed a trip to Strat- ford and enjoyed the play "School for Scandal". Our deepest sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Collins and family Utica in the loss of a dear mother and grand- mother Mrs. Elva Laviolette who is being laid to rest on Wed. in Oshawa. Elva was always such a cheerful soul she will be sadly missed by her friends as well as her family.
