Youth dart league starting dat By Alex Tough First of all, the announce- ment by the Halton league concerning the youth starting date. The day has been changed to Nov. 21 at Charley’s at noon. The change is due to the league’s singles tourney at the Georgetown Legion on the 14th, registration by 11 a.m. This is an open draw day in aid of the annual banquet funds. It all helps to keep. the costs of the closing night’s festivities at a low level. There is a general disappoint- ment at the turnout for the tourneys to date and neither Legion or league are satisfied with the attendance. Do your bgst to support the day, by turning out and throwing some fun darts. Darlene Wheeler won the first part of the 50/50 draw Ted Savage won the sec- ond part of the draw at the last monthly meeting. Time Out and McGibbon both held open draw tourneys last weekend. Unfortunately it was too late to let players know in advance. As I wrote last week, there are a lot of darts going on these days around town. Last week’s Halton league match of the week had to be the clash of the two leading teams, id Bracky’s. The match lived up to the pre-match hype and ended in the defeat of the leading Legion #3 by 8-6 toa fired-up visiting Bracky’s Boys squad. Bracky’s pre- vailed in the opening teams sets. Pete Pickering, Dave Nicholls, Terry Hancock, Bruce .Hope and Jeff Richardson won their singles for #3. while Brian Ward, Erwin See and Doug Burnett were the winning Bracky’s. These results set the way for the doubles to settle the match, being tied 5-5 at this stage. For Bracky’s, Brian Ward and Bruce Stevens dropped the opening double to Pickering and Power. That fas it for Legion as Bracky’s went on to take the next three for the two-point victory. Very exciting finish in a well- played and sporting match. Erwin See scored a maxi- mum and two 140s. Brian Ward high finished with 105 and self and Doug Burnett scored bonus high scores as did Pickering, Power, Nicholls, Hancock and Richardson. Ravine move into third place with a 10-4 win over Copper Kettle. Fourth are Charleys #1, also ven i 4, over Time Out #1. Pizza closed. the -gap a Niee with 12-2 over Legion #2. Legion #4 took out Charleys #2 by 10-4, a popular score on the night. Rob Campbell closed 111, Vic Lovell scored 180 with Steve Foster notching 156. Mike Sinnaeve was another double 140 player. Paul Goudie had four high scores and Mike Pepper scored three of thet The only me se fam to date is Bracky’s Bi the #2 teams of Chareys “md Legion yet to record a win. Practice makes perfect, SO, the old saying goes and is as much true for darts as any- thing else. To be good, you have to practice each day, no doubt about that. However, how?: There are various ways. Remember, in Halton Hills This Wéek; Saturday, Noverber 13, 1993 - Page’ 23 competition, a player is allowed three throws at the board before a match/set. Usually all this allows is.a throwing strength. I usually throw top and bot- tom, side to side of the board to loosen up. Others have their own choices, Next week _T'll ‘throw’ in an idea or two for you. In the Industrial league Westenders and Steeprock are never far away when it comes to the end of the sea- son, and they play steady darts all the way. With the odd brilliant and duff perfor- mance, as well. Last Wednesday, these two met for the first time this sea- son. As might be expected, the match flowed one way then the other. ‘Enders took the first two sets for the early lead. Ray Ackroyd then opened the third with 114 to leave ‘Rock’ behind, but only for a while. ‘Rock’ won this and the next two for a one point lead. The last four sets went one to one, then two to two to give ‘Rock’ the one point victory. Quite a good match, leaving the teams in fifth and sixth spots, still close to challenge the front e has been changed tery Hancock, and Skinny Hunt each Sorel ft double high scores with Dennis Thorogood assisting Ackroyd’s open with two runners. Hugh Smic 140s. Leaders, Dream Team defeated Independents 8-1 with second place Hustlers picking up one point with.a 9- 0 win over Firemen. Gasketman Cutters lowered the Ensigns 6-3 to move into third place, still with a match in hand.
