The South Marysburgh Mirror County Sustainability Group Launches 2024 Bursary for PEC Ecological Farmers By Don Ross Attention all ecological farmers in Prince Edward County...this bursary is just for you! No need to be certi- fied and past winners are eligible to apply. The County Sustainability Group (CSG) is pleased to announce a Sth year for our Bursary for PEC Ecological Farmers. $1000 will be awarded annually by the end of May to a farmer in Prince Edward County who best demonstrates the values of ecologically sound, sustaina- ble farm practices which re- generate soil health, protects vital resources such as water and biodiversity, reduces the need for synthetic inputs and prioritizes renewable energy sources. Our group recognizes the importance of farmers and agriculture to our rural com- munity and province. In par- ticular, we are grateful for sustainable farmers who are doing their utmost to protect the health of the land and all living creatures by imple- menting best practices. We want to help their long term success in the very challeng- ing occupation of farming. The CSG especially acknowledges, with this bur- sary, the challenges faced by young farmers just starting out in organic farming or try- ing to maintain or expand an existing operation. This is an expensive undertaking and not for the faint of heart.
