2/ January 2024 The South Marysburgh Mirror South Marysburgh’s “Striker House” Decked the Halls for the Return of the County’s Christmas House Tour Early December in the County brought no snow but it did offer a glimpse of the coming holiday season with the iconic Christmas in the County House Tour re- turning after a pandemic-related hiatus. The event is staged by the Built Heritage Fund of The County Foundation. Among the treasured heritage struc- tures featured in this year’s tour, one stood out as a fine example of a 19" cen- tury stone farm house situated on South Marysburgh’s Royal Road, south of Mil- ford. To this day, the structure remains known as the “Striker House”, even though the last Striker to live in it, Vernon, sold it to Gordon and Janice Gibbins in 1999. The couple was committed to re- storing the house to the original 1860 to 1865 era when Isaac Striker lived in it. Though modernized over the years, the Gibbin’s restoration returned it to an ele- gant example of a restored heritage prop- erty, one of only three stone houses in South Marysburgh.
