The South Marysburgh Mirror December 2023 /3 Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory’s Fabulous Festive Holiday Auction Runs Till December 11 (Continued from page 2) welcome to join PEPtBO as members to make a differ- ence in bird conservation and research! PEPtBO recently concluded its nighttime migration moni- toring and research, focused on Northern Saw-whet Owls, a frequently-banded owl spe- cies in North America. The Saw-whet Owl Banding pro- gram from September 20th to October 31st saw the banding of 280 Northern Saw-Whet Owls, six Barred Owls, and one Eastern Screech Owl. The support of donors, partners, volunteers, banding staff, and event attendees throughout the month made for a banner year in support of owl migra- tion research. This year for the first time, PEPtBO offered the oppor- tunity for virtual adoptions of one of the Saw-whet owls banded during the season. To date, there have been seventy-one adoptions through the Adopt-an-Owl Program. As of time of print, there are eight owls still available for adoption. These symbolic adoptions play a crucial role in sup- porting the organization's research.
