There are ways of economizing on beautifiers without affecting your looks. For instance: When your lipstick has worn right down there is still a good half-inch or so left in the holder. Poke this out with a pin and put it in a little jar. Get a flat brush--one about three- eighths inch wide -- and do what film stars do, paint your lipstick on with a brush. You can use it as a cheek rouge, too, softening it with a little cold cream. Hand creams can be an expense if you have to use them lavishly. Alter- nate your cream or lotion with olive oil. However tightly you screw the top down, your nail varnish probably goes thick before you finish the bottle. Try warming the bottle by putting it in a basin of almost boiling water be- fore you use it. If that doesn't work, add a little nail varnish-remover to the bottle, shaking it well. You'll find your outlay on face creams less burdensome if you use the lovely new Three-Purpose cream. This serves the purpose of several creams. It acts as a cleansing cream as well as a massage cream and also makes a wonderful foundation base for powder. Used as a "six-minute make-up," Three-Purpose cream with powder, rouge and lipstick to match will help you save money -- and save your looks, too! Happiest Christmas On Record For This Soldier OTTAWA, Dec. 27--To one Canad- ian on active service, this has been the happiest Christmas he has ever known. The man, a gunner with the 24th Anti-Tank Battery, stationed at Peta- wawa, appealed to the Canadian Leg- ion War Services to assist him in locating three brothers and a sister whom he had not seen or heard from for more than 16 years. The supervisor of the C.L.W.S. re- creation hut at Petawawa notified the Legion personal services bureau at Ottawa which immediately got to work. Three days after the notifica- tion was received word was sent to Petawawa that the man's. relatives had been located. One brother, who lives in the vicin- ity of Ottawa, at once took a train to the Petawawa Camp. The reunion was arranged with the minimum of delay and both were able to spend Christmas together with the sister and another brother. The third bro- ther, who won the Military Medal in the first Great War, was not able to be present. He is stationed with the eri Canadian Air Force at Sydney, Year bring you 'more 'joy, happiness and _ pros- perity than you ever anticipated, is our wish for one and all. Pha Hall J. L. HARPER a" Jesus Requires Faithfulness. Lesson for December 29: Luke 12: 35-48. Golden Text: Luke 12: 48. The close of the year, with its thoughts of the passing of time, should remind us that every day we should be faithful to our Lord, Referring to an eastern custom, Jesus urged his disciples to be faith- ful and ready at any time for their Lord's coming. In that day men girded their robes about them in preparedness for action--something of which we have recently heard much. And lamps must be trimmed and burning. Picture a ship in a dangerous channel a stormy night, the pilot peering into the blackness for the flame of the lighthouse but seeing it not. It is sad when a Christian's light goes out but blessed when men are helped by a godly life. There is a story of a fearless girl who, left alone by the death of her father, kept a light burning on a perilous shore throughout a bitter winter. Christians should be faithful keepers of the light Christ has com- mitted unto them. The reward of the taithful serv- ant is not release from service but commission to larger service and continued faithfulness. But the un- profitable servant shall be appointed "his portion with the unfaithful." What wretched company! A dismal figure is that of a man who has been given great opportunity but has failed to make good, has been too small for the job. It is worse for a man to prove unfaithful to Jesus. Let the close of the year remind us that opportunities pass with pass- ing days and that every day and all the days should be improved in the Master's service, that any day the Lord may find us as_ faithful servants. Men From Port Albert Make Fine Impression Many Stratford citizens have had the pleasure, in recent weeks, of meet- ing some of the members of the Royal Air Force who are stationed at Port Albert. Several organizations have entertained parties of the English boys for week-ends, and other organ- izations are planning to entertain them in the future. The impression which the young men from Port Albert have made on iocal citizens is, as would be expect- ed, one that is a eredit to the Royal Air Force. Without reserve, persons who have been fortunate enough to meet the boys have described them as real gentlemen. The arena has been a favorite en- tertainment centre for the boys from overseas. Many of them have their own skates, and they are enthusiastic about Canada's winter pastime. Al- though they take many spills during an evening on the ice, they scramble to their feet, laughing at their own tumbles. It is to be hoped that many more of them will have the opportunity of spending week-ends in Stratford. "As amateur poets go, John has be- come rather popular.
