IN THE REALM] OF SPORT Somebody should shed a tear for this poor Dundas team. «Everybody just knew that it was going to be the last of them when they journeyed down to Rodney for the first game with the Sodbusters. At least every- body said so. Dundas wasn't so good anyway, and caught Stratford when the Nats' batters weren't hitting, their fielders weren't, fielding, and a few other "whens and weren'ts." No the mountaineers have struggled back home under the burden' of the nine runs which they colleéted at the expense of Rodney. The tottering old Dundas hurler, Herdman, had a terrible day. Rodney didn't get a run. It begins to look as if the brand of baseball played down in Essex County is not so high-class as we might have been led to believe. That's not an effort to detract from the Dundas team's win though. The mountain- eers are a mighty smart crew, and it will take a good team to beat them. Down around Kitchener they are talking about a senior group next year which would include Kitchener, Guelph, Galt, Stratford, and Brant- ford. It's not likely that Stratford will be hot on the suggestion. It is doubtful whether senior baseball would be any more of a drawing card here than the Intermediate "A" brand, and entry into senior company would mean some strengthening of the local team. The management is likely' to take the stand that the light would not be worth the candle. The Stratford Country Club was among the first to congratulate Sandy Somerville on his success in being the | first Canadian to capture the United | States golf title, A few minutes after | the "Victory of "Silent Sandy" became | known here, .a message of congratula- tion was humming over the wires to Baltimore, Somerville has many ad- mirers in this city who watched his progress eagerly throughout the en- tire tournamnt. Stratford's Box Lacrosse team has struck a winning stride at last, and that victory over Hespeler at the arena last night won the team a lot of supporters. The score was "10-5, and Stratford deserved an even better margin,on the night's play. The addition of Huether and Richardson, hefty St. Marys players, to the" de- fence, has made a world of difference to the locals. They play Orangeville now in the Central Ontario play- downs. The first game will be played here early in thé week, probably on Monday night, and last night's exhi- bition warrants a good crowd.
