The annual meeting of the Bible Society's branch here was held in the Baptist church, Wednesday evening, and addressed by Rev. W. A. Hassard. The Society had a most successful year. Rev. Hassard during his address emphasized the great need of the Bible and its teaching in the world to-day. Last year he said there had been 8,500,000 copies of the Bible distributed. The retiring president, Mr. W.J. Blakeston presided at the banquet which was held in connection with the meeting and where an address was given by Rev. Dr. Martin. 'The new president for the ensu- Daughters Of Rebekah And Canton Entertain About Seventy Five aa Attend Their First Dance Of The Season Last Night. Daughters of Rebekah and Can- ton No. 15, held the first of their series of dances, which they intend holding this winter, last evening. About 75 couples were present at the Winter Garden and dicover- ed that any hint they got of winter was cettainly not there. No every- one present were purveyors of sun- shine and mirth. Aud what other thing can be scattered any place that costs so little and is worth so much, The music by Shaw's Lucky Sextette added much to the pleas- ure of the evening. The members of the committee in charge of the social evening from the Rebekahs were : Mesdames Brazier, McIntosh, Heinbuch, Moore and Heideman, Those from the Canton--Captain of the Canton Geo. Heideman, and Messrs. W. Hayter, Ed. Herbert, A. Stralo, W. Heinbuch and John M. Stewart. The above members of the com- mittee certainly made a success of the first of these entertainments, and undoubtedly they will improve with age, both the entertainments and those in charge of the program.
