LONG TROUSERS and LONG HEADS Wuen your boy comes to th point where he is to buy his first long trousers, there is need of a whole lot of com- mon seuse. Otherwise disas- ter may result. The only thing a boy really knows about long trousers be- fore he has worn them is that he wants to put them on. His kuowledge of style and fit and ,, materials isnecessarily limited. The wisest procedure is to send your boy to Cumming's and tell him to: get a long- trousers suit that pleases him. For, no matter whiat he selects at Cumming's, you may yest assured that he will get the worth of his (or perhaps your) money. 'Cumming, TheClothier Wm. Y. Donaldson, Mgr. "YT heard a knife grinder and a car- penter arguing the other day, and each was scoring according to his trade." , "How so?" "The first was making sharp re joinder to the other's plane talk." Mistakes Needed. "Do you believe everything you see in the newspapers?" "No," replied Senator Sorghum. "If some mistakes didn't get in.now and then there'd be no use of my doing so much work from time to time to get campaign stuff into their hands." The Times Have Changed. "I never was so mortified in my life." "What's the matter?" "I was the only woman at the pa- triotic rally in a new gown. I knew I should have worn an old dress, but really I haven't one fit to put on." Just Like Real Folks. Irate "Shopper--See here. GERMAN GLOOM. The Germans' recent bad luck led Representative Shouse of Kansas to say at a dinner: "German defeats on the western front and German disappointments in the east have lowered the morale of the German people terribly. The Ger- man people are now as gloomy as the broker. "Mid you have a good day, love?' a broker's wife asked him in the eve- ning at dinner. "'Rotten,' the 'Simply rotten. went down.' "He ate soup in grim silence a lit- tle while, then he muttered: "*Thank goodness they couldn't go sideways.'" broker groaned. Everything I sold A Confiagration. Myrt--What caused the racket down at your house last night? Gert--Oh, nothing much. That young Simpkins called and tried to propose to me. Myrt--Well, what of it? WHEALY Phone 1452J 296 Erie Street In speaking of the recent -_base- ball game between Galt and St. Thomas, someone passed the re- mark that if Stratford would have had an enclosed park, that game would have been played here. Now 7 the more we think of it the more significance that statement seems tohave. Galt is about the same distance from Stratford as St. Thomas, therefore neither team. would be handicapped by a longer distance to travel than the other. Besides this, Stratford would bene- fit by their split in the gate receipts. For some time the fans of the city have wanted an enclosed park. But the city, under certain govern- ment acts, cannot buildan enclosed park and use it for other than mun- icipal purposes. Besides, it is thought to be detrimental to ama- teur sport. That large crowds, and consequently greater gate receipts, h gavethe teams too much money that they could not use to any good purpose and therefore incited com- mercialism. Allthat may be right, but no one can run any team ou praise. Money must *be raised in some way and so far gate receipts has been the only place where this is obtainable. So let's get behind the project, boys, and by the time another season rolls around have a real up-to-date ball field. Then watch it pay for itself. Don't for- ' get that Stratford is as near to the centre of Western Ontario as it is possible to get, and is the logical place for all sudden-death play-off games in any of the leagues opera- ting in this territory. Riversides Win Junior City League Championship On Saturday afternoon last Riv- ersides again demonstrated their superiority over the apprentices by a defeat of 7 to6 in the second game of the play off for the cham- pionship. . Apprentices finished at the top of the heap and as the Riversides were runners up they earned the right to enter the play- off. Apprentices through injuries to some of their players'had to use Smith as a senior man, but the Riversides undaunted went out at the start with the determination to win. The features of the game were a triple by Irwin Murray and a double by Sproat who was put in as a pinch hitter in the final spasm with two men on. , As the River- sides won the first game a third game will not be played.
