The Stratferd Agricultural So- ciety have so developed this anaual event that it has almost out-grown the old-time name of Fall Fair. Each succeeding year it has eclip- sed the former and 1924 has cer- tainly not been any exception in this regard. The weather was ideal and the 1924 exhibit was truly a great success im every particular, and much credit is given the man- agement. The entry list was lar- ger than in former years and many of the entries were from outside places. Better accommodation and big- ger prize money have made the ex- hibit to compare favorably with the large attendance 'at the Exhibi- tion this year is the result of hard work by the directors, but who give the greater part of the credit to President, Wm. Anderson, and Secretary-Treasurer, Jas. Stewart. The slogan "A boost for the advertising slogan adopted by the National Retailers and Furnishers, convening in New York. This slogan may appear_on first thought as being somewhat superficial, yet such a one as Shakespeare thought it worth while, for in a similar phrase he included the same idea in the expression: "That the ap- parel oft doth proclaim the man." A man's apparel, or a woman's, is not a thing apart from themselves. Indeed dress is the compliment of the mind, and while we all know of men who paid little or no attention to dress who have been successful, dress well, but want to, it is indi- cative of the right mental attitude. men in this country only sixty-two negative public attitude. Paint people sell the idea of surface pres- ervation, phonograph manufactur- ers, the pleasurer of the listener, automobile advertisers the pleasure and convenience of the car. It has remained for the clothier simply to picture suits, woolens and prints, instead of appearance and the pleas- ure of being well dressed." The Need ef Statesmen As the spirit of science istthe de- sire for truth, so should the "desire of the politician be for that which will give the greatest good tothe greatest number. E Our country's need today is not for politicians, but for statesmen-- men who are not tied to their party national affairs ever be given their needed consideration as a kind of a hobby any more than a business or a profession can be taken care of iff spare time. Thesesubjects are too big to be treated as a side-line. Would it not pay the state ten times The problems of the hour should be faced with an open mind. We must face the facts as the scientist. Not from any angle, but from every angle. There are basic facts on which a country such as Canada will progress, asthere are on which every successful business is devel- oped. Men who are more deeply interested in the development of Canada than in the strength of their party, isthe great need. _The tar- iff question is one of vital interest not only to the manufacturer, but the workingman. Making pictures from the air gives the photographer much wider lati- tude in selecting his base, but, still more important, it belittles the great things of nature, for the camera is above or on a level with the highest peak, and looks down on the valleys from thousands of feet above. The mountain which rises from near you on the ground falls away and loses much of the sense of height when viewed from above. You are on the level of the clouds, and trees and other objects on the ground are mere specks. A river or a waterfall re- sembles a ribbon, and a glacier is a big, flat field of ice below you. A large number of photographs made by Lieut. Macready, who made the first non-stop flight from the At- new presentation of the landscape of the United States. The pictures were made during detailed trips by Mac ready and Stevens. Even the fliers were impressed by the newness and the beauty of the wonders. '"We had long heard of the beauties of Yose- mite; from our lofty position over desolation there is nothing that ap- proaches this basin and its surround- ings. On each side are black, sun- baked mountains that rank probably among the most dismal, and in sum- mer time the hottest, piaces on earth."' Now comes the surprise for those who think of the United States as a thickly settled country: "The strong- est impression of the United States Motor Cycle Races To ing sport than motor cycle and bi- cycle races. It is hoped that the lovers of sport will encourage these races by their patronage as this 1s the first sporting venture of the new Motor Cycle and Bicycle Club.
