ne: THE MIRROR Local Sport Reflections By our Sporting Scribe. Stratford lady bowlers are having a big . . » | time at the greens this year and their sever- | al tournaments having been attended with splendid success. In this week's tourney Mrs. R. J. Easson, Mrs. J.L. Youngs, Mrs. Roddy and Mrs. Jas. Easson were winners | of the cut glass. A rare treat is in store tor Stratford folk on Labor Day this year when a monster sports program will be put on by Stratford Branch of the Great War Veterans' Associ- ation. Twenty-five big events are scheduled, for which 85 prizes valued at $800 will be given. The London Advertiser has donated a cup for the St. Marys-Stratford road race which will be run on that date. The sports will be conducted at the Agricultural Park, and preceding this will be a calithumpian parade, leaving the city hall at one o'clock. The second series of the City Baseball League is progressing rather slowly. The darkness for one thing is proving a 'big set- back and already there has been three unfin- ished fixtures, called because of darkness. Monday night's game between Pounders and Whytes proved to be a pitcher's duel be- tween Riggs of Whytes and Walkom of Pounders. Whytes had to fight against a | two-run lead for four innings before they fin- ally tied the score in the sixth. Darkness | came too soon to complete the game and | break the tie. When persons from a city go to another | city, particularily a city the-size of Montreal, | there is nothing they like better than to meet | people from their old home towns. Down in Montreal the other day the Stratford Ap- prentice baseball team came across Mr. Alex. McDonald and were given a right royal reception. Alex. is himself a graduate | of the Stratford C. N. R. Shops and is now | superintendent of the Montreal Motive Pow- | er Shops. Following the Apprentice League game the Stratford boys remained on the field as guests of Alex.: to see a big soccer match. Stratford is not likely to have a team in the Ontario Basketball series this winter. The long journeys which the loeal team had to make last year in group and play-off games put a big dent in their finances, par- ticularly in view of the fact that support was not large. Interest in basketball in Stratford this year will likely centre in city league as well as a Y.M.C.A. league for Stratford and other cities nearby.
