Siple, Roger Garfield "Rog" (Died)
- Full Text
Roger Garfield Siple, known affectionately as Rog by his friends and family, passed away suddenly as the result of an accident on December 7, 2023, at the age of 20. Born on March 3, 2003, he touched the lives of all who knew him.
Roger grew up in Newark, where his love for animals, the outdoors and building blossomed. He was a cherished son to his parents, Leon and Jennifer Siple, and best friend to his sister, Zoë Siple. His family was the centre of his life, and he was a source of immense pride for them. His roots were deep, and while his life was short, he leaves a huge void that will be filled as much as possible by honoring his legacy and wisdom.
He was the beloved grandson of Brad Markle and his wife Wilma, and Cathy Bingham, who will miss him dearly. Roger was predeceased by his grandparents Carl and Hope Siple, grandfather Keith Bingham, and uncle Ryan Markle who passed on the legacy of kindness and strength that he carried so well. He leaves behind his extended family, including his uncle Chris Markle (Jillynn) and family, Clint Siple, Martyn Siple (Linda), Carla Siple, and Annie Johnson.
Roger had many passions and was good at everything he did. A keen outdoorsman, he enjoyed motorsport as much as canoes. He enjoyed the simplest pleasures and spent hours walking the fields with his dogs at his side or spending time with his many friends. His love for animals was evident to all who knew him. He rode horses, raised calves, goats, laying hens and turkeys. Roger had a special affinity for cats and dogs, and there was often one at his side or in his lap.
He thought deeply about many things and listened to podcasts voraciously to expand his knowledge and perspective. Although quiet, Roger was an unintentional leader and started many fads during his time at school, including long hair, Pit Viper sunglasses and NELK Boys gear. He had an impeccable work ethic, and was respected by all who knew him for his authenticity, integrity and intelligence, and his absence will be deeply felt in the community.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday December 12, 2023, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday December 13, 2023 at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Norwich Cemetery.
Donations to Oxford County Animal Rescue or Operation Sharing would be appreciated.
