dhe Oshawa Tunes OSHAWA, ONTARIO, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 1961 COMMUNITY JOINS IN UNITED EFFORT 1] | 3 2 4 i : | x | : President's Message TO ALL CITIZENS OF GREATER OSHAWA: Oshawa is one of the most fortunate cities in the Province of Ontario in that its citizens have de- monstrated their generosity year after year by giving to the Greater Oshawa Community Chest in a manner that has enabled the participating organ- izations to carry on their individual activities. However, as the City grows both in population and stature, so does its human problems grow in number and it is, therefore, necessary to point out at this time that if this fine humanitarian record established over many years is to be maintained, the citizens generally must be prepared to be even more generous than heretofore. The Greater Oshawa Community Chest Cam- paign of 1961 will have as its objective $215,000.00 and since this amount is absolutely the minimum necessary to maintain the services of these partici- pating agencies, it is my sincere hope that every citizen will consider this a personal appeal. I regard this appeal as one which presents to all of us a privilege in which we can show our grate- ful appreciation for the blessings that have been ours in this much-favored City. Sincerely E. G. STORIE, President Greater Oshawa Community Chest Nine-Man Study Of Budgets Your Community Chest is an organization of the contributing public to support a health and social welfare program that will satisfy all of the needs of the community in this field, to the extent that funds will permit. As such, the Chest directorate are the Trustees of the funds raised. It has two main functions -- budgetting and fund-raising. Each: Chest agency prepares a budget estimating its need for the coming year. Nine local peo- ple who form the Budget Com- mittee do a careful item-by-item study of the budget submit- ted and keeping in mind the needs of the community, re- commends the allocation that each agency should receive. The total of the allocations is the campaign goal and it then becomes the responsibility of the Campaign Chairman, with his wide and varied committee 1 to raise the funds needed to al- | form the work required of it in i pend on the Chest for funds. | UNDER CHARTER The Greater Oshawa as a corporation under charter | requiring that a certain number of the directors shall each year. McLaughlin Joins Appeal TO MY FELLOW CITIZENS: Oshawa grows steadily. And as it grows, so grow the demands on the many essential welfare serv- ices that make our city a better, happier place. Most of these welfare services long ago banded together in the Community Chest. The Chest makes possible a single, united appeal on behalf of all these agencies. It means that by giving once, we do give, in fact, to nearly a score of worthy Oshawa services. One day soon, all Oshawa citizens will be asked to contribute to the Community Chest. And be- cause we are a growing community, this year's target will be higher than ever before. Each of us will want to give generously and gladly to the ut- most of our ability. I am sure that Oshawa's tradi- tional generosity will be demonstrated once again in the Community Chest Campaign of October 18 to November 4. This year's campaign slogan is "Give Enough to Share Enough". Let us do so. Sincerely yours, R. S. Mc LAUGHLIN
