Ward-whate was accepted with regret. Mrs. Ward-Whate and family are leaving Oshawa to reside in Winnipeg. The Guild wished its former member hap- piness, health and prosperity in her western home. The church bazaar, to be held Nov. 29, was discussed and ten- tative plans made. The tea hostesses, following adjournment of the meeting, were Mrs. Roy Day and Mrs. James McCansh. SWEET ADELINES Last week was a busy one for the Oshawa Chapter of Sweet Adelines. On Wednesday they sang at Hillsdale Manor. The chorus sang several selections end joined in the sing-song which followed. On Thursday the weekly meet- ing was held for a practice ses- sion, The annual show is slated for October 28 and much work is to be done. The week ended with a fall dance at Little Buckaroo Ranch on Saturday and proved most successful, NUPSE the treasurer's report. Various committee reports were given. Members were informed that the Talent Money must be turn- ed in at the November meeting. The catering report was given by Sister Gladys Crawford. The next executive meeting will be held Tuesday, October 10, at the home of Sister Blanche Norton. Refreshments were served by Sisters Helen Read and Joyce Anderson. LAUREL GROUP The regular meeting of the Laurel Group of St. Andrew's United Church was held recent- ly in the ladies' parlor. Mrs. Randolph Mark, the president, opened the meeting with prayer followed by reports of the secretary and treasurer. Arrangements were made for a rummage sale to be held later in October, Mrs. Reginald Burr and Mrs. E, F. Cuthbertson assisted with the serving of refreshments. LADIES' CIVITAN CLUB _ At the first fall dinner meet- ing of the Ladies' Civitan Club held at Sandalwood resaurant were installed and all members) and guests were welcomed by the president, Mrs. James Lo- gan, After discussion of aims and program for the coming year an amusing hat exchange pro- vided entertainment and at a cost of a quarter (25c) a hat added to the club's funds. The president closed the meet- ing with a short reading from "Out of My Heart" by Agnes Sligh Turnbull. MITCHELL'S CORNERS H - 8 Mitchell's Corners Home and School Association recently held its first meeting of the season ith Mrs. Henry Alstein presid- g. A party for the graduate stu- dents is to be held this month for the presentation of certifi cates and pins. TOMATO-ONION MARINADE 2 medium tomatoes, sliced 1 medium cucumber, peeled, and thinly sliced 15 medium onion, thinly sliced officers of the new executive and separated into rings 2 AES a Sonn Xa Iceberg lettuce, shredded tablespoons chopped parsley Dressing 14 cup salad oil % cu, wine vinegar 14 teaspoon black pepper teaspoon salt teaspoon whole oregano teaspoon garlic powder Alternate layers of tomato, cucumber and onion in shallow glass dish. Beat dressing in- gredients together with a rotary beater; pour over vegetables and chill, covered, for 6-8 hours. Drain and serve on shred- ded lettuce. Sprinkle with chop- ped parsley. Serves 6. TOMATOES Peel 8 small tomatoes care- fully. Place in a casserole and then sprinkle with salt and) savory. Cover. Bake at 400 de- grees F. about 30 minutes. Re- move from oven. Dot with but- te. or margarine and let it m»it over tomatoes. Makes four serv- ings. CALIFORNIA SALAD CUP Senop out seeds and pulp from peeled or unpeeled tomatoes. Sprinkle insides with salt, turn upside down and chill in refrig- erator. Make a filling using generous amounts of finely] chopped chives or green onions and cottage cheese. Fill chilled] tomato cups.
