MO. 8-3703 DiGgilauil waiel Smell Becomes Council Puzzle The smell of stagnant water at a culvert west of Simcoe on Winchester reached Township Council on Monday night. A letter from Eva Bartlett and Joe Parkin pointed out the drainage problem at the corner that has existed, they say, last winter. "At the time of the sudden thaw last winter, the water was flowing and forming a pool about seven inches above the top of the tile leading to one of the houses. It backed into the cellar fairly quickly." Council was notified at this time, the letter charged. "We understand the trouble was partly due to broken tile in the park and also that the tile is not deep enough to carry the extra load, fast enough." Therefore, stagnant water has lain at the culvert all summer, the two alarmed residents said in the Ic'ter. Council, on a motion by Jim Brooks, forwarded the letter to Le ad Geis "How far up the throat was the heart of the oncoming motor- ist?' asked Magistrate R. B. Dnieper when he sentenced a Courtice man to 30 days in jail for drunk driving. Bert Charles Sparrow, 39, said he fled from a Pickering Township Police car on August 6 because his sister-in-law be- came hysterical in his car. INVESTIGATE ACCIDENT Constable P. D. Nichols told His Worship that he investi- gated an accident at the corner of Pickering Beach and the baseline on August 6 but was unable to find one car in- volved in the collision. Later he saw the accused's car go along the Pickering Beach road at 6.42 p.m. The officer said the car turned east onto the Baseline road. Constable Nichols testified he turned on the police siren and the flashing light as he began the Road Committee for study. chasing the Sparrow car. Long Branch Now Chicken Is Question By CLIFF GORDON Who is trying to kid who? That is what the Whitby Red Wings would like to know so far as the run around they are get- ting right now from the Long Branch Castrolites and the OLA. It would appear that the Long Branch team want to play just when they feel like. Anyway that is the way it would appear 5 this writer. The Wings were slated to play in Long Branch last Friday night and they phoned that there was some electrical power trouble and they would be -un- able to play. We understand from a reliable source that there was a big for- mal prom that most of the fel lows wanted to attend. But just what the full excuse for not going ahead with last night's game is well beyond us. In the meantime the Whitby boys make ready for tonight's big game here against the same Castrolites and we would like nothing better than to see the Wings trim the pants off the Long Branch team. The fans did not turn out as well as expected for the last game here but we understand there was a couple of other lead- ing do's on that night and they killed the crowd. So fans, these young fellows on the Lacrosse team are hav- ing a tough time of it trying to make ends meet, so let's get out and give them some real en- couragement. The players appreciate your support and we know the man- ager and coach sure like to see 2 good crowd. In this way you show them that their tireless efforts are being well rewarded. time for this game which will be the fourth game of the series is 8.30. The Red Wings lead the series 2-1. stable H. O.
