BARCLAY WARREN Recently I saw eight people present themselves as candi-| dates for the ministry. Is the tide beginning to turn? Is our| absorpiton with material things lessening? Are we going to head| the exhortation of our Saviour (Matthew 6:33)? "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His rightenusness; and all these things shall be added unto you We see from the preceding verse that '""all these things" refers to the things of which we have need. Our heavenly Fatner knows our needs Before the last war the buy- ing of most Canadians was re- stricted because of the depress- ed economy. During the war, with greater employment and higher earnings, buying was still limited due to the emphasis on munitions. But since the war, as production has caught up with demand, we have really been spending money. If "things" could make people happy, then we should rank sec- ond in happiness among the peoples of the world. But the flow of unhappy people to the psychiatrists is increasing. Let us pray that there will be a great turning to seeking first "But as many as received Him, to them gave He the right o become children of God."--John 1:12, 4 THE GOLDEN TEXT the kingdom of God and His righteousness. The glut of mate- rial benefits may have number- ed our spiritual appetites for a time, but some seem to be re- gaining their sense of balance. We hope that a definite trend will be established. Why were these youth entering the ministry? It wasn't for wealth, glamor, prestige or ease. That Religion is the outer expression of the divine reality. Therefore it must be living, vitalized, moving and pro- gressive. For further information please write: 29 GLADSTONE -- PHONE 725-7578 11:00 AM. They had found from experience that Jesus Christ was able to forgive) and cleanse the heart. They knew He could do the same for others. But more than that, they believed that God was laying His hand on them to proclaim this Good News in their fellowmen.! They felt as Paul expressed himself in I Corinthians 9:16, "For thougn I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity 1s laid upon me; yes, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!" We do need a spiritual awak- ening. A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things that he possesses. Happi- ness is found in denying self and taking up the cross and fol- lowing Jesus.
