I Federal political circles, fresh| from the excitement of Social Credit and New Democratic | Party leadership elections, now| are turning their attention to) the provinces where they count seven certain vacancies. There are reports that there may be another three. This look doesn't take account of provincial organizing conven- tions of the NDP which are ex- pected to name leaders for the new CCF-CLC alliance. Most federal interest centres on the Progressive Conservative leadership choice in Ontario and the CCF in Saskatchewan. In each case, the new leader will become premier of his province. The Conservative choice in On- tario will take over from Pre- mier Frost, who is retiring. The CCF man in Saskatchewan will succeed Premier Douglas, who is leaving the provincial field for the NDP federal leadership. The certain leadership va- cancies are in all provinces ex- cept Newfoundland, Prince Ed- ward Island and Manitoba. But there is gossip here that va- cancies may appear in the two Atlantic provinces, leaving Man- itoba the only one without a leadership vacancy or talk of one. New Brunswick: The Conserv- ative leadership has been va- cant since former premier Hugh John Flemming became federal forestry minister. Seeking the post is maverick federal Tory J. C. Van Horne. Quebec: The Union Nationale, plagued with leadership prob- lems and a general election de- feat since Premier Duplessis died two years ago, is in the throes of a leadership struggle. Saved From Blazing Cottage ORILLIA (CP)--A blind, 68- year-old woman and her three young grandchildren were res- cued Saturday night from a blazing summer cottage at Farm Bay, six miles east of here. Police said fireman Earl Cloutier, 30, and postal super- visor James Keeling, 36, both of Toronto, saved the lives of Mrs. Ethel Stanley and Helen, 3; Doreen, 5, and Carol, 10 months, children of Mrs. Helen Corson. There was no sign of fire as the two men heard children screaming from the cottage. They split up, Cloutier going to the rear and Keeling entering through the front door. Cloutier found Mrs. Stanley lying at the bottom of a stair- case where she had apprently fallen while trying to lead the| smrreme children out, Three of her fing-| ! ers were broken.
