ASHBURN By MRS. R. RICHARDSON ASHBURN -- Mrs. M. Sparks was hostess to the Auxiliary of the WMS at her home on Wed- nesday evening, July 5. Sixteen members answered the roll call with a verse using the word "Grace." Mrs. Deeming had charge and opened the meeting with a poem. The program committee had for their topic profiles of the women of the New Testament and gave the story of the work of Lydia, Priscilla, Phoebe and Dorcas. A short discussion followed on the work of the women in the church today. Mrs. L, Deeth gave an excel- lent report of the semi-annual synodical held at Gamebridge on June 8. Plans are underway for the annual Thankoffering service to be held in October. Mrs. Sparks served a dainty lunch and a happy meeting was closed with prayer. Mr. and Mrs. N. Anderson opened their home for the Third Annual Picnic of the seven chil- dren of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. Anderson of Islington. There were 43 present includ- ing parents, children and grand- children. Guests were there from De- troit, Elora, Terra Cotta, Col- lingwood, Islington, Woodstock, Toronto and Ottawa. Games, contests and sports were enjoyed by the children. The older folks visited and also enjoyed contests. Meals were served on the spacious lawns. A very happy time was enjoyed by all. The church school for children from the ages of four to the early teens is being held at Port Perry. Several ladies from Ashburn are in charge. Mrs. Ray Taylor and Mrs. A. Fisher are attending the Mis- sionary Training School at Belle- ville this week. Mrs. G. Fisher from Oshawa spent the weekend with her family in Ashburn. Mr. and Mrs. D. Purdy, To- ronto, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashton. Mr. and Mrs. Kroes have left by plane to spend a holiday with their relatives in Holland. Mr. and Mrs. Downey and daughter spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. F. Daw. Mr. and Mrs. E. Batten visit- ed with Mr. and Mrs. R. Batten on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. Stanton, To- ronto, and Mr. and Mrs. W. Bidwell visited with Mr. and Mrs. A. Richardson on Satur- day and Sunday. PRINCE ALBERT PRINCE ALBERT -- Mrs. B. Smith and Mr. Robt. Snelgrove supervised the junior children while Mr. Perry conducted the service on Sunday. Tuesday afternoon the Doyle bus transferred the children to the "Maples," Uxbridge, for the annual Sunday School picnic. Although the temperature was of a chilly nature the usual fun at the pool, the pony rides all proved enjoyable. The long table laden with the customary variety of food plus sport line- up ended another pleasant out- ing. Monday night, July 10, a gathering of interested friends| assembled in the church par- lors to bring useful gifts to a young couple, Mr. and Mrs, Robert Medgley whose home was recently gutted by flames while away. Mr, E. Martyn act- ed as chairman, a sing-song was accompanied by .Mrs. G. Hunter, Mrs. J. Brain and Mrs. Wm. Peel assisted in various ways at the party. Mr. F. Gili- son, a neighbor, also expressed sympathy in their loss. The Midgley's thanked all for the as- sistance. The members of the Woman's Association met at the home of Mrs. Les Beacock. President, Mrs, B. Snelgrove presided. Mrs. Roy Hope read a passage of scripture. Lesson thoughts by Mrs. B. Smith. Secretary Mrs. C. Luke read the previous min- utes. Treasurer report by Mrs. N. Wilson. Last minute plans discussed regarding forth com- ing supper. Appreciation was voiced on loan of dishes for a recent wedding. Mrs. M. Pugh reported on Hospital Auxiliary which was held in the form of a luncheon meeting at the new home of the president, Mrs. Dr. Diamond, Port Perry. Penny- draw tickets were available. It seemed agreeable to sponsor a shower in aid of a couple who were burned out. Mrs. B. Jeffs now ably addressed the ladies in instructive phases of the new future "Woman's Meeting" which was most appreciated. Mrs. G. Hunter and Mrs. B. Snelgrove rendered a series of piano duets. A reading "If Jesus Called at your House," by Mrs. L. Beacock. Mizpah clos- ed the meeting. Light lunch was served by a group. We all were pleased to meet three visitors, Mrs. L. Devitt, Oshawa, Mrs. H. Holtby and Mrs. J. Holtby of Prospect. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Heayn upon the arriv- al of their new daughter. Recent relative visitors with Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Martyn in- clude Mrs, Cober, Monague, Mich.; and Mrs. A. McPherson, Lindsay. Mr. and Mrs. J. Rodd, Osh- awa, with her sister Mr. and Mrs. N. Wilson.
