TL T---- SA - 12 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Wednesday, June 21, 1961 Port Perry Bowlers Busy PORT PERRY -- The 1961 Lawn Bowling season has got started off in fine fashion, al- though the weather at times has not been too favorable. The week of bowling will be divided as in previous seasons. | Mondays and Wednesdays will be set aside for the use of the Ladies' Club, with Wednesday evening open to any members. Tuesday and Thursday are be- ing used for men's scheduled games and Fridays are for mixed bowling. Taking charge of the men's club bowling and all local club tournaments will be the vice- president of the club, Bruce Beare. The Open Tournaments are in direct care of the presi- dent, Fred DeNure. There will be five open contests this sea- son, the first will be on Satur day, June 24, followed by Wed- nesday, July 12, Saturday, Au- gust 5, Saturday, August 19, and finishing on Wednesday, Sep- tember 9. This season is hoped to be one of progress. All members are urged to bring new bowlers into the club, and members of other years are asked to take a more active part. The club is debt free' and the bowling fees are small, ten dollars per year, for the members of previous years and only five dollars for first year bowlers. Any club members will be glad to in- troduce new bowlers to the game and no fees are charged for the first month. The officers of the club for the season are: president, Fred DeNure; vice-president, Bruce Beare; treasurer, Roy Honey; property, Leonard Colbear and secretary, Arthur Cox. Memorial Planned GREENWOOD -- The annual Memorial Service is being held at the old Salem Church and cemetery on Sunday, June 25, at 2.30 o'clock. Rev. Rex Norman of Ajax will be the preacher and Audley Men's Choir will lead the singing. The Evening Women's Asso- ciation met at the home of Mrs. Tony Gardiner on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Wm. A. Brown and Mrs. Mildred Eastwood attended the opening of the Retarded Chil- dren's School at Ajax on Satur- day afternoon. On Friday evening of last week friends and neighbors of Mrs. Hazel Wilson met at the church for a social hour. Mrs. Wilson has sold her farm and is moving to her new home in Stouffville the end of June, Dur- ing the evening Mrs. Wilson was presented with a Westmin- ster Chimes mantel clock, and purse, following a short ad- dress of appreciation of Mrs. Wilson's life in the community. Mrs. Wilson thanked all present and those unable to be present for the lovely gift. Lunch brought the evening to a close. Milton Pegg, Gerald Pegg and Ken McTaggart spent a few days on a fishing trip in the north country. Douglas and Mrs. Morden 'and Marylou and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McTaggart were on a weekend motor trip to South- hampton. Michael Nicholson returned home from Oshawa Hospital on Saturday where he had been for the past week. Miss Janice Clarke is able to be out again after a severe at- tack of measles. The Geo. Blake and Rod Ox- ford families spent the weekend at their cottages. Miss Joyce Trolley and friend of Brampton were with Mr. and Mrs. W. Trolley on Sunday.
