Must Reveal Deals With Swiss Bank TORONTO (CP) -- ,Complete| records of four years' dealings| with the Union Bank of Switz- erland must be disclosed by the Canadian Bank of Commerce to the national revenue depart- ment, an Ontario High Court justice ruled Monday. The department asked the! Bank of Commerce for informa- tion and documents from Jan. 1, 1955, to Dec, 31, 1959, con- cerning its transactions with the Swiss bank. The Canadian bank |i asked for a declaration that the department's requirement was unauthorized and of no effect. Mr. Justice D. R. Bursk, editor of the Harvard Business Review, said Monday in an address te the Association of Canadian Advertisers. Part of the reason for the high birth rate, Mr. Bursk told his audience of advertisers, is their success in marketing e rising standard of living. He "People work shorter hours, have more leisure, living in- creasingly, in suburban homes, have more labor-saving devices, worry less about having jobs and being able to educate their children and, in general, man- age to enjoy their children more." However, said Mr. Bursk, an expanding population doesn't in- evitably mean prosperity and could easily lower the standard of living, and he put in the shoulders of the advertisers a share of the responsibility for seeing that prosperity is main- tained. "What you need if increasing population is to mean increas- ing prosperity," he stated, "is an increasing production of goods and an increasing demand for goods by people in order to keep the production mechanism going." MARKETING DOESN'T WAIT To get this increasing demand required dynamic market: ing which Mr. Bursk described as "the aspect of business by which a business lifts itself, or an industry, or a country, or, TORONTO (CP) -- The Royal {Insurance Company, with head- quarters in London, England, has offered to buy shares of two 100-year-old Canadian insurance firms with an annual $70,000,000 world-wide premium income. The offers are considered well above going quotations on the unlisted industrial market. West- ern Assurance shares were quoted Monday at $85 bid, $86 asked, and British America shares were quoted at $108 and $110.
