10 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Saturday, April 29, 1961 Montreal Club 1g Time Plays B MONTREAL (CP)--The Mon- treal Concordia soccer club is looking for a big-name forward and a centre-half to complete 1 its lineup before it makes its International Soccer League de- but against New York Ameri- cans at the Polo Grounds in New York May 20. A club official says he ex- pects to make final arrange- 4 ments with two of the top Brit- ¢ ish players within the next few days. The team is holding a spring training camp in suburban Ste. Anne de Bellevue where First Division players from. Europe and South America have been practising. It will break camp periodic- ally to play in the Ontario-Que- bec Interprovincial Soccer League before its New York opener. The Interprovincial League schedule has been ad- justed to allow Concordia to play its games before and after the International League 'sea- son. The International League will be divided into two sections, the first one opening May 7 in New York with a. game between Pesiktas of Turkey and Ein- tracht of Frankfurt, Germany. The second section opens June 25 with a game between Petach Tikwa of Haifa, Israel and Ire- land's Shamrock Rovers. a MONTREAL CONCORDIA STARS JORGE, HORVATH JAMBARO PRACTICE Concordia will play seven games in both sections -- the only team to-do so. Its first home game is against Everton of England May 23. SPORT BRIEFS ~ PLAN HALL OF FAME SAN FRANCISCO (AP)--Can- ton, Ohio, where the National Football League was formed in 1920, was selected Thursday as the site of its Hall of Fame by league owners at their annual meeting. Selection of players and officials to be honored in the hall and financing of the project will be worked out by a committee from Canton and the NFL. WOULD WIN GAME WINNIPEG (CP) -- An all star game between the Amer- ican Football League and the Canadian Football League would be interesting but the AFL team would have too many guns, says Dean Griffing, a man with experience in both leagues. Griffing, general man- ager of AFL Denver Broncs, said in an interview 'put your substituting for the injured Del Crandall, committed the only Milwaukee error. He dropped a foul pop by Ed Bailey in the ninth. There were more houses with lights on at 4.00 am. than any day since Christmas morning and before sunrise, the traffic on the sideroads of Ontario, Durham and other neighboring . counties was gréater than a Sunday summer afternoon. They say baseball fans, golfers, skiers, deer-hunters, etc., all "just live" for their own special season but there's no group that can quite match the impatience of reined- in enthusiasm displayed by the trout fisherman, as he awaits opening day. Because May 1st -- traditional "opening day" comes on a Monday this year, the Lands and Forests Dept. moved the opening to Saturday mor- ning. If you think the trout season "bug" doesn't really bite -- we'll tell you of one local ardent angler, as an example. He was up long before dawn this morning -- in fact, as dawn "broke" -- he was already at his favorite stream. He was back in Oshawa (a distance of quite a few miles) in time to be at his desk at 8.00 o'clock this morning -- and then it being Saturday, he was to take off again right-after lunch -- and return to his fishing haunts for the rest of the daylight hours. Now that is enthusiasm!
