Dear Mary Haworth: My, daughter is engaged to a very fine young man whom she loves very much. Both attend the same university, living on cam- pus. Yet when I invited him to join our family for a religious celebration, he preferred to stay home alone, even though parents were out of town for the holiday. When we don't have other company, he doesn't hesitate to come to dinner. Do you see any basis for a good marriage here? Can you advise where I, or my daughter, his| billing. Dear F.R.: Your letter to Sam is transparently manager- ial. He probably feels a strong distaste for that aspect of your interest in him. In a would - be helpful, but clumsy, way you are exhorting to conform to your ideas of what will make your daughter, happy in marriage. In your Sam is marrying While pointing out his short- comings, you 'butter him up" in sparkle, he will be a soclal| clinker all his life. The average man is apt to develop obstinate sales resis- tance even to what he wants if long subjected to that type of pressure. If Sam is a fine young fellow, and if Sara hopes to marry him, and if they are in love and en- gaged, my advice to you is to stay out of their interchange. The supper was arranged by the couple's only child, Miss Verda Jane Weir, and was held at the Central Hotel. There were 22 members of the family t and all-from various points outside of Oshawa. Mrs. Weir was presented with an orchid corsage by Mr. Del- mer Neimann and Mr. Weir re- ceived a white carnation bouton- niere.
