Business Of the three big poultry indus- fries in this area, the Peel Poul- try Farm, the home of the origin- al "Barred Rock' stock, is not only the largest hatchery in Port Perry, but boasts the biggest chicken producer record in On- tario County. R. A. Peel, owner and presi- dent of the firm started his poul- try business in Port Perry on a small scale in 1927, Since then the business has expanded to in- clude about 20,000 laying hens and produces between 60 and 65,- 000 chicks a week to be shipped to various killing plants through- out Ontario and Quebec. Oscar Beare, farm manager, who has been with the Peel farm for the past 28 years supervises the hatching, grading and pack- ing of the chicks from the time they first emerge from their shell have left the plant for the var- poultry = processing plants throughout the country.
