This recipe for 5-Minute Walnut Fudge, developed in Carnation Company's test kitchens, is an ideal gift ... it's easy and fun to make for the maker and will eertainly be appreciated by the receiver, The container you select for the fudge should fit the person- ality of the person who will re- ceive it. A sleek-looking apothe- eary jar is fine for some of your young sophisticated friends, but grandmother would probably ap- preciate a new sewing basket or a decorated old-fashioned tin box. Use this delicious fudge recipe as a basis for your gift, and let your imagination take care of the gift container. S5-MINUTE WALNUT FUDGE Two-thirds cup (small can) undiluted evaporated milk One and two-thirds cups sugar 15 tsp. salt 1% cups (16 medium) diced marshmallows 1% cups semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 tsp. vanilla 1% cup chopped walnuts Mix evaporated milk, sugar and salt in saucepan over low heat. Heat to boiling, then cook 5 min- utes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add marshmallows, chocolate chips, vanilla and nuts. Stir 1-2 minutes until marshmal- lows melt). Pour into buttered 9- inch square pan. FAST DOGS Whippets, fast racing dogs, were developed as a breed in England about 1850. CANDY EASTER EGGS (Chocolate Coated). One-third cup margarine or butter 2 ozs. cream cheese 2 to 4 tbsps. sweetened con densed milk % Ib. icing 1 tbsp. Maraschino cherry juice % cup cut-up inaraschino cher- es slice of candied pineapple, finely cut up 3% cup of dates (optional) One-third cup of walnuts or pecans chopped tsp. vanilla OR 1% tsp. almond extract METHOD: Beat the first two ingredients until smooth and creamy. Add icing sugar and cherry juice and about 2 thsps. of sweetened condensed milk, Mix these together, adding the rest of the ingredients, then using your hands work this till fruit and nuts are well distributed and mixture stiff but smooth. (It may be necessary to add a little more condensed milk.) Using a well- rounded teaspoonful of mixture, roll it in your hands to form an egg or any desired shape, place on wax paper and chill, Coating 3 squares semi-sweet chocolate 1 10c milk chocolate bar 1 tbsp. parafin wax Melt the above ingredients in small pan over boiling water, In- sert fork or skewer in the egg and spoon hot chocolate mixture over it and allow excess liquid to drop back into pan. Place the finished egg on wax paper and cool. Decorate with icing sugar tinted frosting as desired. These are delicious and will make a quantity of small sized eggs. Mrs. M.
