Shipping Act Clause PARADE By GERRY BLAIR Eastern Canada is apparently well represented in the Allan Cup and Memorial Cup Championship finals this year being played in the west and east respectively, Out on the west coast, the Chatham Maroons have taken a'commanding 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven finals against Trail, with one game, a draw. However, the margin built up by the Maroons, is not necessarily indicative of the play, especially after Saturday night's thrilling, hard fought 2-1 de- vision in favor of Chatham. According to the game summary, Trail Smoke Eaters held a favorable edge in the first forty minutes of the contest, and except for the stout work of Cesare Maniago in goal for the Maroons, the final outcome might have differed some- what. Chatham needed only a tie last night to clinch the Canadian Senior "A" championship. If accom- plished; the first for the Maroons, in two attempts, and both in the west. Here in the East, things are considerably more one sided at present, with the St. Catharines Teepees leading 2 games to 1 having trounced the Edmonton Oil Kings in their last two outings, 6-2 and 9-1. The latter taking place last Sunday before, 10,000 or more at Maple Leaf Gardens, one of the largest Junior crowds since the Junior Canadiens were in their hey-day. Manager Leo LeClerc of the Oil Kings, made some astonishing prior to the open- ing game in St, Catharines. The that h club would not even win one me probably : some psychological effect on both clubs, St. Cath- arines could have become just a i complacent, and Edmonton, a little f p at the vote of con- fidence on the part of their manager. But proceedings immediately switched upon the arrival of the two clubs at game time on Friday night in Toronto. Obviously the larger ice surface played havoc with the Oil Kings, and their defence floundered incessantly. Things became progressively worse on Sunday, as the Teepee"s showed too mi speed and class for the Westerners. As yet, Cliff Pennington, heralded as one of the finer Junior hockey players has shown, little or no drive, which he exhibited here in Whit oy on several occassions. We figured Cliff to give h to prove Kitchener author ies wrong by not nim at Squaw: Valley, We think he can, ai will play much better before the conclusion Memorial Cup finals. TOWN AND COUNTRY .....
