Peacetime Rerord In Deficit OTTAWA (CP) -- The friarp' eovernment had a budget deficit of $609 316,844 in the fiscal year ended last March 31, highest ever vecorded in peacetime and the fcurth time since the 'Second World War that the government has gone into the red. The size of the deficit, an- nounced Friday by Finance Min- ister Fleming in a final account- ing for the 1958 - 59 year, was shaped out of revenues of $4, 754,722,689 and expenditures hit- ting an all-time high of $5,364,- 1039,533. Previous record spending was $5,322,253,505 in the war year of 1943-4, In his budget sp April 9 or disc pressed into a recess in the handle. This is probably why you couldn't find the holding screw. It is under the cap. Once removed, you can undo the screw and remove the handle. (If you notice there is a nut under the handle, this should be slackened before trying to remove the] handle). | When the handle has been re-| moved, unscrew the cap nut but don't pull it off the shaft. The whole shaft can be removed by turning it counter clockwise. On the bottom end of the shaft you will find the washer It is re-| moved by undoing the centre holding (brass) screw. For about] 25¢ you can buy a bag of assort-| ed washers. Select the right size| and replace. However, before re- assembling the faucet, examine the seat against which the wash- er makes contact. If pitted it should be recut as a pitted seat THE OSHAWA TIMES, Saturday, August 15, 1959 13 ORONO HX. PATH TAREN By. WATER WEN TEP 1 ores will soon wear away the new washer, and the leak will start again. A special inexpensive seat cutting tool is available for this purpose. You may even be able to rent one from vour local hard- ware store. If the tool is not im- mediately available, assemble the faucet anvway, but figure to recut the seat at the first avail- able opportunity because the life of the new washer won't be very great if the seat is bad. Inci- dentally, before tightening the cap nut, make sure the shaft is screwed right down so that the washer is in contact with the seat. If water leaks around the cap nut, slide it back on the shaft and wind a few turns of well waxed string (clockwise) around the shaft. Tighten the nut and the leak should cease.
