Magic Fruit Surprise Cake Quick to Mix, Good to Eat There's a magic in the air dur- ing the Christmas season that doesn't seem to exist any other time of the year. It's gay and festive and it's nostalgic. And it's a very, very busy season. What could be more suitable to keep the Christmas larder well filled than a magic fruit surprise cake? It's magic because it's so simple and quick to make, and it's a surprise because of the wonderfid - flavor obtained from nsing novel and inexpensive in gredients. Sweeteed ocnondemnsed milk gives it that desirable, moist con- sistency and mincemeat lends a flavor not found in ordinarv Christmas cakes. Walnuts and candied fruit provide a rich quai- itv. Add a pinch of basil and the drained | contents of 1 (6-ounce) can of crab, broken into chunks. Serve | piping hot. | How to Roast | Halt a Turkey | Wash balf turkey and dry thoroughly. Sprinkle cavity with salt. Tie leg to tail. Skewer wing flat against' breast. Fasten skin to breast meat along keel bone. Trim double thickness of waxed paver to the approximate size and shape of cut surface of bird and place on a rack in roaster. Mound the dressing "on the waxed paper to fit cavity of bird. Place half turkey on top of dressing. Completely cover bird with cheesecloth dipped in melt- ed fat and roast, according to time table, in an uncovered roast- er. Add no water. If cheesecloth becomes dry, re-moisten with drippings from pan or with addi- tional fat. Eviscerated weight: 6% to 8 Ibs.,. cook at 300 degrees F. for 3% to 4 hours; 8 to 11 lbs., cook at 300 degrees F. for 4 to 5 hours.
