THE OSHAWA TIMES, Seturdoy, April 28, 1959 13 ] ' ¥ "With a cheque and a check-up" HELP WRITE THE GREATEST NEWS STO OF ALL TIME Still to be written is one of the greatest news stories of all time--the announcement that the fight against Cancer has been won. No one can say with certainty when that day will come, but month by month and year by year, medical research draws closer to the inevitable victory over one of mankind's cruelest enemies. Everyone must do his bit to bring closer the day when this great news story can be written. For Cancer is no re- specter of persons. It knows no prejudice. Young and old, men and women, the well-to-do and the impoverished are its victims, Cancer kills fifty-five people daily. It kills seven times as many people as do highway accidents. Never a day goes by without 'a new Cancer patient registering at one of the clinics right here in the Ontario County District. More and more is being learned about Cancer. Through early diagnosis and treatment many lives can be saved. In research centres and clinics the work goes forward thanks to the generosity of Canadians everywhere. But a great deal more remains to be done. Next week, the people of Oshawa and district will have their opportunity to help fight against Cancer -- "with a cheque and a check-up." Here are two important things each person can do: have regular medical examinations and contribute generously to the current Cancer Campaign. ¥ On Tuesday evening, April 28th, the entire organiza- tion of the Oshawa Kiwanis Club will stage"a BLITZ on behalf of the Cancer Fund. Club members will call at every home in Oshawa for donations that may help to eliminate Cancer forever. Keep your porch light burning and when the canvasser calls, make your contribution as generous as you can. It will be gratefully received and usefully em- ployed. r You owe it to your family, yourself and your commun- ity to hasten the day when the fight against Cancer will be won. Watch For The Seven Danger Signals 0f Cancer A sore that does not heal A lump or thickening of the breast or elsewhere A change in a wart or mole Unusual bleeding or discharge Persistent indigestion or difficulty in swallowing Persistent hoarseness or cough A change in normal bowel movements This Appeal is Sponsored in the Public Interest by GENERAL MOTORS OF CANADA, LIMITED
