Opera- tions were started also in the plant of the Andrew Antenna Cor- poration on Beech Street. The development of this area for smaller types of industries is promising. It might be noted that on Beech Street a new plant was erected gor the Munns Press Every effort is now being made by the industrial commissioner and those asociated with him to bring other industrial plants to the town, and the prospects today are bright. ADVANCE IN EDUCATION In the field of education, provi- slon was made by the school authorities to take care of the steady influx of new pupils. The Public School Board completed in tha fall a n.room to Hillcrest School in the north ward, which meant extra teachers and equipment. The Board of St. Ber- nard"s School erected a new four- room school of modern design in a new and growing part of the town which has sprung up with the placing on the market the former county home and other properties. Today the Public School Board has plans under way for the erection of a six-room addition to the Dundas Street Pub- lic School which will be pressed into use next September. Here, also, additional teache and equipment will be required. With the steady growth of the town it is realized that the needs of edu- cation are a must CHURCH EXPANSION In the late summer a start was made on the erection of a build- ing for the United Church which will be devoted to Christian edu cation and other purposes for which more room and better facil- ities have been a need for several years. It replaces a wing church which served almost since the church was erected, being used largely for the Sunday School oom ad of the culty in obtaining certain building when the building will be read for use. The new professional building, a commendable public enterprise, is now completed on Dundas ly Street West, It is the first of its family kind in Whitby and is a valuable end in addition to the many fine build- ings Whitby today is proud of.
