The fun-filled family festival is organized and hosted by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, with Sheridan College hosting the event at the Oakville campus on Trafalgar Road. And, as in Previons years, Ribfest is presented by the Co- operat This. year's Ribfest features nine well-known ribbing teams that will be competing for best ribs and best sauce: * Silver Bullet * Kentucky Smokehouse * Tennessee Fatbacks * Billy Bones BBQ * Boss Hogs * Brick Yard BBQ * The Crazy Canuck + The HogFather * Bad Wild BBQ In honour of the country’s sesquicentennial anniversary, Peden said this year’s Ribfest has a Canada 150 theme, with a special display of historic photos, Canadian flags (old and new) and a trivia challenge (with prizes). There will also be an indigenous area with Métis elders telling stories, as well as beading demonstrations, dancing and singing. Soper Wildlife Rescue will have an educa- tional area for children, in addition to perform- ing two shows for children each day. “They're pretty fantastic folks,” adds Peden. There will also be a children’s area, that’s free, and a marketplace with a wide array of food vendors, including food for vegetarians. Ribfest will have plenty of live entertain- ment. On Friday, The Argues, a classic rock band, kicks off the festivities at 6:30 p.m., with Practically Hip, another classic rock band, tak- ing the stage at 9 p.m. On Saturday, entertainment begins with Lit- tle Peter and the Elegants, a’50s and ’60s band, 1 am. Then at 1:15 p.m., the Caribbean jaz group, Jermaine and Saint “O”, will per- form, followed by Johnny Max Band, a classic rock band, at 3:45 Sheridan Musical Theatre presents the open- ing ceremonies for Ribfest at 6 p.m., with the Canadian tribute band, Bare Blue Sea, on stage at 6.30 p.m. Fleetwood Nicks, with music from the '70s, go on stage at 9 p.m. The live entertainment continues on Sunday, with Rich Piatkowski performing at 11 a.m. The Beat Heathens, featuring music from the 70s, '80s and 90s, go on stage at 1:15 p.m., followed by Groovehammer at 3.30 p.m. The Caverners, a Beatles tribute band, wrap up the festivities at 5 p.m. There will be on-site parking at Ribfest for $10. Free parking is available at nearby Town Hall, with shuttle buses, people movers (golf carts) and a horse-drawn wagon for the chil- dren. Oakville Transit also goes into the cam- pus.
