Peter Hvidsten Weekend Star A Scugog businessman who has been operating dances and providing entertainment around the township for more than a decade wants to help raise money for the arena's sec- ond ice pad and has offered to organize pre- teen dances to raise money. Peter Kneale came before council Monday at the request of the munici- pality who wanted to find out more about his pro- posed fundraising plan. ~ Mr. Kneale's dances would be geared towards pre-teens and he hopes to. .. hold them at the Scugog Recreation Centre once a month. Ward 2 Councillor Marilyn Pearce said she had heard concerns from another group who runs pre-teen dances twice a month at the centre. The dances are run by the Port Perry Skating Club and it is one of their main fundrais- ing events. The popular dances ' attract between 200 and 400 kids per night. One of the main con~ . cerns: to council were the "low rates being charged for the use of the facility on Friday nights, which amount to under $100 per by offering cut.rates on Fridays. ~~ Council agreed to let Mr. Kneale go ahead with one dance at the present fee schedule and would address the rates after "they see if it was a success.
