The Uxbridge Arena played host to over 700 local and not-so- forth by the province's appointed committee to control develop- ment on the lands that supply much of the drinking water to the' region. . There were shouts from the audience that the five-year limit on large-scale development and estate homes was a loophole to allow developers to sneak back on to the moraine after a feel safe period for conservationists. There were murmurs from developers In jhe room that their ability to do business at all was being stifled. Through it all, the main point may have been missed. With or without a strong moraine police agency, as long as the Ontario Municipal Board -- a group appointed, not elected -- has the final say, then there is:doubt in the air. As long as the OMB can cast regional and municipal official plans to the wind in their deci- sions, as long as the most opinion on how and where lands will be protected is made up by provincially appointed boards who answer to no one, how can we assume that the moraine will ever be safe for future generations. As long as municipalities slowly lose control over what may, and what may not be built on their lands, there can be no conclusion to the Oak Ridge Moraine story. Fixing what is wrong with the OMB process is the only foundation upon which a true solution can be based. tes "Sunny Summer Days" is the theme of this shot, a photo taken by Diane Eppel of little Jillian and her daddy togther enjoying the sun.
