The 13-year Canada Post employee told The Star she had called the homeowners in advance to let them know she was coming around noon to drop off a set of keys for the commu- nity mailbox. _ She said that upon stepping onto the property, she was ambushed by the large dog. "The dog just attacked me," she said. "l was walking around the garage to the house, and it came at me." The German Shepherd, which was tied up to a clothesline run, jumped up on her and tore into her clothes, said the carrier. | SA "I was scared. It just came at me. | v . grabbed it by the bottom jaw when it attacked me and got it to stop," said the Postie. She said she's been bitten Saddle Club's competition last Sunday in Uxbridge. "It's the owners' fault. There were no (warning) signs out, and you'd think they'd make sure their dog couldn't get at anyone especially if they knew someone was coming," she said. She returned to work the following day. Local Postmaster Bob Walker said a complaint had been lodged, and the letter carrier suffered no serious injuries. "She was not hurt physically - she | wasn't taken to the hospital or any- thing-- but it's very unnerving when a | dog jumps out at a person." | Mr. Walker said the carrier followed | proper protocol, 'which calls for | posties to call ahead before making a personal delivery. "Usually we call ahead and if we see a dog out or think there might be one we honk the horn and hopefully | someone will come out," he said. The dog has been quarantined by the health department. Ironically, the attack on the local mail carrier came just after Canada Post launched a nation-wide media campaign, imploring people to keep their dogs from attacking its employ- ees.
