"WEEKEND STARA 111 FRIDAY, JULY 27, 206i - 13 It's next month in Brooklin Durham to host Canada Plowing Championship All eyes will be on the community of Brooklin later this month, when the Durham Region Plowmen's Association hosts the Canadian Contest and Farm Festival. The annual Durham Region Plowing Contest will also be held, following the national event, at Picov Farms, just west of Brooklin, August 29 to 31. Members of the local Plowmen's Association have been working steadily to prepare for the national contest, which will be held in Durham Region for the first time since 1975. In fact, they've had to work especially hard, since the event was awarded to Durham just recently, said Jim Ferguson, secretary-treasurer with the Plowmeén's Association. "We got word there was nobody ready to host (the Canadian contest) this year," said Mr. Ferguson. Durham made a pitch for the event, and met with success: "They accepted us as the host," said Mr. Ferguson. "It's coming together well, we feel." There are 150 acres of land available on the farm, which is located on Cochrane Rd. south of Hwy. 7. Cochrane Rd. runs parallel to Hwy. 12, and is west of Brooklin. That's more than enough to host the Canadian event, which will see competitors arriving from across the country to compete in a number of classes, as well as the popular Durham Region event, said Mr. Ferguson. Admission to the event is $5, with kids under 12 allowed in free of charge. For more information, you can call Mr. Ferguson at 705-357-3069.
