All minor lacrosse players in the Whitby system were given a free ticket for the game and were' encouraged to stay back for an autograph session and prize give aways. The game started well for the home side when Gary Rosyski scored with just two minutes gone in the game. Shawn Williams scored his first of six on the night to make it 2-0 before the Excelsiors scored just before half the period was over. Brampton tied it up two minutes later when Brian Biesel put one behind Redmen starter Gee Nash. The teams then played back and forth with no scoring. It looked as if they would go to the break knotted at two. However, Steve Toll for the home team and Dan Teat for the visitors each scored in the final 30 sec- onds of the first frame and the score was 3- 3 at the 'break. 'The Excelsiors came out of the chute with determination in the sec- ond and Mike Murray, who always has good games against the Redmen, scored for Brampton before most folks" were back in their seats with just 27 seconds off the - clock. Redmen captain, Shawn Williams, scored just a minute later to regain the tie. The teams went back and forth in the second period, as well, exchanging goals with the Redmen tying the contest at 7-7 with a minute anda half to play in the second and that is.how the teams went to their dressing rooms preparing fans for a great third period. The Redmen wanted to "make Scott McMichael proud on this night and in the third they scored three times in just over one minute from the 2:29 "mark to the 3:51 mark to take a 10-7 lead. Mike Henderson stopped that run, for the visitors, with.a goal with five minutes gone in the last period to keep the score close at 10-8 for the Redmen. However, Steve Toll and Brad MacArthur scored five seconds apart a minute later and the Redmen were up by a 12- 8 lead. Thé Excelsiors got two more from Rusty Kruger in the third. However, three more "Redmen goals in the final three minutes that went unanswered 'gave the. home team the period at 9-3 and the final score of "16-10. The Redmen went with Gee Nash for the entire . game, although Phil Wetherup was a good sport and played net for ~ Minor g a 16-10 loss on visiting TE teams from the Whitby Lacrosse Association who played in the first intermission. The Excelsiors went with Bob Watson until the 17:06 mark of the third when Brandon Miller saw some brief floor time. Referees on the night, Fox and Trinaistich, called 'a total of 70 penalty min- utes, 27 for the Redmen and 43 for the Excelsiors. Shawn Williams had a - big night for the Redmen with six goals and one assist while Rusty. Kruger of Brampton scored three and added three helpers. The Redmen are now ~at a record of 8-3-1 and they got some help as Peterborough lost in Six Nations by a score of 10-9. The Redmen are now alone in second place a point up on Peterborough and three behind the Excelsiors. The Redmen have two games in hand on Brampton and one on Peterborough. The Redmen host Six 'Nations this. Wednesday, July 4 and they travel to Brampton for a rematch next Saturday, July 7.
