"WEEKEND STAR" Rf yn ) Players sought for new womens rec soccer league By Chris Hall The Star Laurel Hansen is looking to start her own womens soccer league, and is cur- rently trying to recruit players. While she has enjoyed her time play- ing on a local womens rep soccer team over the past two years, Mrs. Hansen says the travel involved has become dif- ficult on her family. She is looking to start her own womens league, which would see players compete once a week here in Scugog. "Being on a travelling team was diffi- cult with kids. I'd have to be one place to play and they'd have a game or a prac- tice somewhere else. It got to be hard on all of us," she said, referring to the 2000 season when all three of her children were playing. And so, the idea of creating her own league soon came about. "I'd .like to see a league with four teams, but if 1 can't get enough interest, I'd at least like to see us get together and have a pickup game or a scrimmage -one - week." No fee would be charged if the games were night a just scrim- mages, howev- er a fee of about $80 would have to be charged to cover the costs of shirts, insur- ance and regis- tration fees if a league was formed. "It would really just be a way to get outside and play and get some exercise; it wouldn't really be competitive, but just for fun," said Mrs. Hansen. No experience is necessary, but play- ers must be over 21 years of age. Anyone interested in playing in a local womens recreational league is asked to contact Laurel Hansen at 905- 085- 1884.
