"WEEKEND STAR" Brooklin Redmen gearing up to FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2001 - 21 Rec hockey players sought for European ttt A Lu ue rere? defend their Mann Cup title Now that the National Lacrosse League has wrapped up for another year, with the Philadelphia Wings beating the Toronto Rock last Friday 9-8 in the championship game, the Ontario Lacrosse Association, Major Series in gearing up for another exciting summer of lacrosse action. The Brooklin Redmen are 'the defending' Mann Cup Champions and the 2000 roster featured 16 players who play for a number of teams in the National Lacrosse League. There were five Redmen on the Toronto Rock roster including, Steve Toll, Dan Ladouceur, Glenn Clark, Ken Millin and Niall Maynard. Lacrosse fans in Durham Region are treated to an excellent product on the floor and do not have to dig very deep into their pockets for the experience. The Redmen have held ticket prices to $8 per game, com- bine that with a program for $1 and a 50/50 ticket it is still the best bar- gain in town for any sports fan. The Redmen organization encourages any fans that have not made the trek to Iroquois Park to come out on Wednesday, May 23 when the Redmen host the Six Nations Chiefs at 8:30 p.m. The 2000 Mann Cup banner will be raised at this game in celebration of a victory over the Victoria Shamrocks last season. Season tickets are also on sale for a cost of $72 for adults and $54 for seniors, this includes entry to all I0 home season games. The Redmen will once again feature two Saturday night home dates with Scott McMichael Night on Saturday, June 30 with a 7 p.m. game against the Brampton Excelsiors. . On Saturday, July 28 the Redmen host the St. Catharines Major Athletics at 7 p.m. during a Minor Lacrosse Qualifying Tournament at Iroquois Park. Automatic isn't an option anymore. tour next season The Heartbreakers, an adult hockey team based in Winnipeg, are looking for players to participate in a recreational tour to England, Holland and Germany, next season. Dave Springett, team man- ager and organizer of the trip, is currently accepting applications from area players between the ages of 25 and 50 that want to experience a European hockey tour. While team members are responsible for their own travel expenses, the club provides uniforms and makes all the arrange- ments leaving the players to focus on the games. Players throughout Canada have participated in the past. Dave Springett has been organizing Europe hockey tours since 1982. "It's been very successful, we've played 135 games in Il countries. It's always an honour to pull on the red and white Maple Leaf jer- sey in Europe. Many play- ers dream about playing international hockey and here's a chance to do it."
