Beta Sigma Phi Sorority marks 75th anniversary The Beta Sigma Phi sorority celebrated its 75th anniversary this past Monday, April 30 at the Port Perry Curling Club. Six chapters from Port Perry and Uxbridge came together to laugh, talk and celebrate the landmark event. : The sorority was found- ed during the 20's to pro- vide women an escape from the rigours of their domestic lives. Today, the women's group continues to thrive. And Monday night's get- together was a celebration of an organization that has thrived for generations. One member. from each chapter is voted Girl of the Year for outstanding ser- vice to their group. The sorority has grown to over 12,500 chapters with over 2.5 million mem- bers around the world. Teen escapes serious injury as his ATV collides with minivan A 14-year-old boy nar- rowly escaped with his life Sunday (April 29) after col- liding with a minivan while riding an all-terrain vehi- cle. Durham Regional Police were called to the area of Concession 14 and Wagg Rd. in Uxbridge Township after the report of a two- vehicle accident. Police say it appears that the ATV ran through the intersection stop sign and was then struck by a PORT PERRY DENTAL ASSOCIATES minivan. The rider of the ATV, a l4-year-old, was thrown into the windshield of the van, and then into the ditch on the side of the roadway. Fortunately, the teen - who was wearing a helmet at the time - escaped with only minor injuries, and was later released from Uxbridge Cottage Hospital.
