4 - "WEEKEND STAR" a - ~~ t= FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2001 Local real estate market off to good start early in 2000 The Durham Region Real Estate Board has announced that the new year started briskly with 382 resale homes selling in Durham Region in January, up 4.9 per cent from 364 sales in December of last year, and also up 18.3 per cent from 323 sales in January of 2000. "The increase levels of inventory together with lowering interest rates could have interested home buyers making decisions early in the new year," said Durham Region Real Estate Board President, Brett Puckrin Active listings on the Multiple Listing System were up 17 per cent to 1,513 from 1,291 in December and up 18 per cent from 1,278 active listings reported in January 2000. The other good news for consumers is that the average price of a home: in Durham Region has increased 1.02 per cent to $179,758 from $177,849 in . December and a further 4.8 per cent from $171,455 recorded in January 2000. "It's all good news," said Mr. Puckrin. "We anticipate a strong spring market, especially if interest rates are reduced again in the near future." Homes sold in Durham Region were on the market for an average of 45 days and sold on an average of 97 per cent, list to sale prices ratio. Durham Region is the fastest selling market in the GTA.
