Mr. O'Toole said that the local museum will receive an operating grant of $7,535 from the Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation. The funding will help the Island muse- um cover annual operating expenses for the 2000-2001 fiscal year. "The museum's staff and volunteers are to be commended for their outstanding efforts in preserving, promoting and pro- tecting local heritage and achieving high professional standards among Ontario's museums," said Mr. O'Toole. "Some of the highlights from the muse- um this year included workshops on blacksmithing and woodworking, and a publication on the village of Epsom. The grant money is appreciated, and will be put to good use, said interim museum director and curator, Michelle Ginter. "The grant is a welcome boost since it will help cover expenses such as heat, hydro, insurance etc. and these are some of the basic necessities to keep the muse- um and archives open for the public to enjoy," she said. Approximately 200 community muse- ums will share in the provincial funding from the Ministry.
