"WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2000 - N - Marchi, assisted by Chris Little Predators drop a 4-1 decision Tri-County Tykes fall to Sunderland Last Friday, the Tri-County Tyke team ran into a well rounded, good checking Sunderland team. The Predators didn't have their A game and surrendered 4-1 to the visitors. Jonathan Griffen was tested early and he came up big on an early breakaway. Jonathan Brouse got the only Port goal when he slammed in a rebound assisted by Reid Stewart. The boys did try hard and had sever- al attempts but couldn't get anything past the strong Sunderland netmin- der. Nick Mason was stoned when he deflected a shot from the point. Jonathan Brouse just missed the far corner with a low hard shot on a sole effort. Josh Malyon, on one of his patented rushes, came up short when he blasted one off the goalies mask.. The defense had their hands full all night. Stephen Hall had a great game and did some nice backchecking. Nick Mason made some smart defensive plays as did Nicholas Shinas who did a great job Jory McClean scores four in Green's Electric victory of keeping the puck in the Sunderland zone. Notable checks were also made by Dale Edwards, Aaron Ashbridge and Brody Anderson to keep the game close. On Saturday, the Predators played a much improved Manvers team. The coach's talk and the dress- ing room music did the trick this time as the boys came out prepared to play. Andrew Van Camp defenceman, started strong and had two early rushes. On the second rush, Andrew deked the defence to the outside and beat the goalie on the short side just over the goalie's outstretched pad. Assists were given to Nathan Scott and Josh Malyon. Port's second goal was scored off a great solo effort by Jonathan Brouse. Jonathan made a great move to beat the defender at the blue line but his shot was stopped. Never one to give up, Jonathan, from his stomach, deflected the puck in off the goalie with a shot from behind the line. Josh Malyon, winning another draw, stepped quickly around the defence to the outside and fired a low shot to the far corner for an unassisted goal. Port's final goal was scored when Brody Anderson scored from the slot when Nathan Scott gave him a terrif- ic pass to give Port a 4-1 victory. Travis Mackey made some great saves. Travis had a lot of support as many Predator players played strong defensively. Stephen Hall was a force on the ice as he made several checks, cleared the puck out of his own net before it crossed the line and valiantly tried to stop a big Manvers forward on a breakaway. Reid Stewart and Trevor Grant, always strong defensively made some timely checks. The boys are also making some smart passes as Stewart St. Cyr, Reid Stewart, Kyle Schweda and Dale Edwards found their teammates in the open.
