Young Bruins holding their own in Novice hockey action The Uxbridge Young Bruin Novice Selects are hold- ing their own at home and on the road with a win, a loss and a tie in their last three efforts. On Oct. 29 the team travelled to Grafton for an exhi- bition game against Clarington, with a 5-5 result. Goals were provided by Trevor Stewart, Jacob Smith, Walter Draper (two), and David Rushlow, with assists by Walter Draper, Jeff Hamlin (two), David Rushlow, Trevor Stewart, Jacob Smith and David Croxall. On Nov. 2, Jeff Hamlin, assisted by David Croxall, came up with the team's only goal in their 1-0 exhibition win over the East Gwillimbury Eagles. Super goaltend- ing by Dexter Damboise and Ben Strong teamed up with fast skating and great passes to show that the team In their second away game in a week, the Selects lost 4-1 to the Whitby Wildcats in regular season action on Nov. 5. The Bruins lone goal was scored by Greg Correction: In their game against Stouffville last month, David Rushlow was not identified as a goalscor- $10,000 is top prize Fifth annual Womens' Resources "Big Ticket Raffle" has begun Women's Resources fifth Annual Big Ticket Raffle is now under way. ~ This year's prizes include $10,000 cash as first prize, a 50" Proscan television provided by Earl Kennedy Electric and a five-day/four night trip for two to Biloxi, Mississippi provided by Lindsay Travel. Tickets are S10 each and anyone who purchas- es a ticket before Dec. 23 will have a chance to win a DVD player, which was generously donated by Earl Kennedy Electric. The draw will be held Masch 8. In the past four years, Women's Resources has raised over $50,000 profit from the proceeds of the raffle. "This is our major fundraising event for the year and it takes a lot of volunteer and community support to make it a suc- cess" says Lori Watson, executive director. Women's Resources is a non-profit agency which has provided emergency shelter and counselling services to abused women and their children in Victoria County since 1991. The agency is funded through the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the board of directors has an annual fundraising goal . of $25,000. All proceeds from the raffle stay in Victoria County and go directly into the services for women and their children. For more information call 878-4285. Jan Jones, Andrew Pilkington awarded pins by Skate Canada PPFSC members achieve gold pins Skate Canada has awarded gold pins to two members of the Port Perry Figure Skating Club. Jan Jones, of Uxbridge, earned her gold dance certificate and pin for "outstanding achieve- ment in passing the gold dances" and Andrew Pilkington, also of Uxbridge, earned his pin "for outstanding achieve- ment in passing the gold freeskate". : Andrew, 21, is in his final year at George Brown College studying Hotel and Restaurant Management. He has not skated competitively since he turned 16. Jan, a mother of two, returned to skating after six years absence to achieve her goal of gold. Both skaters complet- ed the gold tests during the PPFSC Summer School at the Uxbridge Arena. The Port Perry club is proud to give adult skaters the opportunity to participate in the Skate Canada test program. Jan and Andrew are to be commended for their effort and determination. They join Sarah Chapman as the only skaters to earn gold pins while with the Port Perry Figure Skating Club.
