A report to trustees this week said that 126 portable units, some dating back to the 1960's, have -been removed from school sites across Durham Region in the past year. Superintendent Jack Massie said that while Port Perry High School is relying less on portables with its new library and music room in place, the separate class- rooms will be in place at other northem schools for "We have remained at about a constant level for portable use in the north," said Mr. Massie, adding that some additional portables have been installed here. "One unit was moved to R.H. Comish in order to get a special education class out of the gym and into a proper class," he said. Mr. Massie said he would like to move more units off sites, but awaits the growth needed to do so. "We are in situation... in the north where we are on hold, awaiting the growth and new student enroll- ment we expect to come from new developments and begin to build new schools," he said. Police nab impaired driver A Port Perry man has been charged with drunk driving after being pulled over by police earlier this week. Durham Police report that officers were on gen- eral patrol around 5:10 p.m. on Nov. 7 when they pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of Hwy. 12 and Scugog Line 8.
