McClelland Weekend Star Early season woes con- tinued for the Port Perry Mojacks as the team lost three games last week in Central Jr. C Hockey League action. The most recent loss came on the road Monday night to the Bobcaygeon Bullets -- a team the MoJacks might very well find themselves battling for a playoff spot with next February. The previous night at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks surrendered four third-period goals to the Little Britain Merchants and went down to defeat by a 10-7 margin. And on Oct. 17, the Mojacks made the long road trip to Lakefield and came away 7-4 victims to the Chiefs. The losing skid now stands at four and the MoJacks find themselves with just five points (two wins and a draw) after eight games in this new Junior C season. Despite the four losses in a row and the overall sluggish start, the Mojack's director of hockey opera- tions, Murray Parliament is not about to start pushing any panic buttons and says the mood on this rookie-laden squad is up- HEATHER JONES RES. In the Monday night 5-2 loss to the Bullets, it was the third period that proved to be the killer as the MoJacks held a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes and then gave up four unan- swered goals. It was a similar scenario in the home-ice loss to the Merchants the previous night -- four goals given up in the final 20 minutes. Trouble in the final period of hockey games may be due to the fact the Mojacks are able to get in just one practice each week and the team simply runs out of steam after 40 minutes. In the Bobcaygeon game, Jeremy Ritchie and Dana Bloom were the goal scorers with Matt MacMaster Forbes collecting assists. In the 10-7 loss to the Merchants, Jamie Parry led with twaol goals for the MoJacks, while singles came from Andrew Mercer, Nathan Cotter, Adam Jones, Matt MacMaster and Shane Norton. Forbes, MacMaster and Jones each had two helpers in this one. Things will get no easier for the green and white this week in their quest to break the losing slide as (705) 328-2657 and Darren they are in Uxbridge Friday (Oct. 27) night for an encounter with the fast- skating Bruins. In the first meeting of the year between these long-time rivals, the Bruins were all over the Mojacks to the tune of 14-3. On Sunday night, the MoJacks play host to the Bullets at the Scugog Arena (7 p.m. faceoff) and no doubt will be looking to avenge the 5-2 loss earlier this week. The team welcomed a familiar name to the ranks earlier this week as Cory Bricknell is now working as an assistant coach to Tom Thornbury. Bricknell played much of his minor hockey here in Port Perry and enjoyed a season with the MoJacks as a defenseman. The 25-year-old brings a wealth of hockey experi- ence to the team as he has played at the pro level in the eastern United States, and brought a hard-nosed { Members of the Port Perry Tennis Club are Durham "B" League Champions for 2000. Mr. Parliament said Bricknell's hockey experi- ence and positive attitude will be a good influence on the young Mojack squad.
