By John B. McClelland Weekend Star Scugog Township's parks and recreation com- mittee is suggesting that a skateboard park should be located on a corner of a municipal parking lot behind the Bank of Commerce in downtown Port Perry. But serious questions were raised about the location at the committee meeting Monday morning. Councillors wondered if developing such a facility for skateboarders would mean the loss of scarce parking spots in the down- town core, and whether neighbouring businesses want such a facility nearby. Ward 3 Councillor Jim McMillen said any loss of parking would be of great concern to the Business Improvement Area and the Chamber of Commerce. The decision to put the skateboard facility on this location was made last week at a meeting of a par- ents' group, parks and rec committee members and township staff. The original location for the skateboard park, just south of the baseball dia- monds on Water St., had to be ruled out because of poor soil conditions that would not support the con- crete facility. But concerns over the possible loss of parking space and the compatibili- ty of such a facility with nearby residences and businesses prompted the committee to declare that a public information meet- ing should be held before the plan goes any further. No date for such a meeting was mentioned at Monday's committee meeting. A report from the parks department says building the park on the northwest corner of the parking lot will result in the loss of 12 spaces. But these could be recovered if the entire lot is reconfigured with lines painted to properly mark out the parking spaces that are available, the report says. | Chapman Scugog Duplicate Bridge results Three-way tie for first in Sept. 27 bridge action Scugog Duplicate Bridge Club - Sept. 27 Afternoon 3 Table Howell Avg. 24 Three way tie for first First, second, third - Doris Phinney and Gary Minnie; and Bea and Bob and Sophia Brendon and Georgia Brock 27-1/.2.
