Sandra Holdsworth . returned home victorious earlier this week after attending the inaugural Games, which were held at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec. After the competitions wrapped up -- they were held from Aug. 9-13 -- she found herself with four gold medals and one silver. Competing in the 35- and-over division, she cap- tured first-place in singles and doubles table tennis, as well as gold in shot put and ball throw. Her silver medal came in the badminton event. "It was a fantastic time; it shows that organ dona- tion works, and that people who have received a dona- tion can be athletic," said Mrs. Holdsworth. "The whole point is to be there, participate, and show people that you can still lead an active life." More than 100 athletes from across Canada came to participate. . Mrs. Holdsworth hopes to raise some corporate sponsorship in the near future so she can partici- pated in the, World Transplant Games in Kobe, Japan next August. Since being diagnosed with a liver disorder in 1992; and receiving a liver transplant in 1996, Mrs. Holdsworth has been actively promoting organ donation, and acts as a local spokesperson for Organ Donation Ontario and the Canadian Transplant Association.
