These were the words of Gary Meers, uncle of six-month-old Olivia Meers, who was killed instantly when a pick-up truck allegedly ran a stop sign last Saturday on Regional Rd. 57 and struck the vehicle carrying the infant and her parents. The Meers were on their way to visit the child's grandmother in Janetville. Mr. Meers was in an Oshawa court Monday to watch as Vincenzo Mottile, the driver of the . : full-size pick-up that struck the Meers family's Firefly sub-compact, was released on $12,000 bail. Mr. Mottile, 44, of Newcastle, is charged with impaired driving causing death, two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing death, dan- gerous driving causing death, and driving while exceeding the legal blood-alcohol level. Mr. Mottile sat tearfully in the prisoners dock as his lawyer Alex Sosna sought and received a media ban on all evidence at the bail hearing. The man was charged after an accident last Saturday night (July 29) around 9 p.m. Durham Regional Police said a pick-up truck traveling east on Clarington's 6th Concession ran a stop, and slammed into the Meers vehicle as it trav- eled north on Regional Rd. 57.
