8 - PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" Blacksmithing lectures give insight on time-honoured craft Learn the time honoured methods of traditional blacksmithing from a master in an authentic historic forge by the sunny shores of Lake Scugog. Lloyd Johnston is a fifth generation mas- ter blacksmith with work in every major historic centre in Canada and in public and private collections internationally. Students will learn the traditional methods of drawing out, upsetting, forge-welding and other blacksmithing techniques. A combination of lectures, demonstra- tions and hands-on experience will give the novice blacksmith a solid base of knowledge to develop. This is a great course for those interested in traditional architectural work, history, and those who are simply curious about the trade. Students will have the unique opportu- nity to view many historic pieces including the work of Samuel Lount. A small profect of the student's own design will be worked on and each will leave with new knowledge, the enjoyable experience of meeting people with similar interests and the invaluable instruction from a master blacksmith. A lunch of tradi- tional fare will be provided. Enrollment is limited to eight. The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22 at the Scugog Shores Museum in Port Perry. Register by phone or in person. For more information contact Veni Vidi, 170 Queen Street, Port Perry, (905) 985-8775.
