NAAR Rama Casino Fabulous Sunday Breakfast Buffet + $5, coin voucher FREE! li Love affair with vintage cars "It's one of the finest restorations l've ever seen," the Pinedale resi- dent says, "right down to the radio." Mr. Bebee got involved in old cars at a young age. Just shy of his 16th birthday in 1954, he paid $100 for a 1940 Studebaker. "It had to be registered in Dad's name as | wasn't of age yet to legally drive," he said. Owning that old Studebaker for three years, he says it was the beginning of his love affair with old cars. Over the next few years he owned several old auto- mobiles, not because he was interested in them "but because they were avail- able-and it was all I could afford." Over the decades that's followed, he's owned 55 vehicles, including trucks and motorcycles. In a scrapbook Mr. Bebee has accumulated all the receipts and photos of each purchase. It was after buying a 1928 Model AR type open-cab pick-up in the early 60s when he joined the Pembroke Model A Club. Working at the local RCAF radar station, he also owned a '58 Harley with sidecar, a 1959 two-door Meteor and a 1930 Model A pick-up truck. After his release from the airforce in 1964, Mr. Bebee became the tour chairman of the Quinte Parkway Tour - Upper Canada Region - of the Antique and Classic Car Club of Canada. In 1983 he joined the Model A Owners of Canada. Volunteering his time on the executive for 14 years he worked tirelessly as edi- tor of Quill & Quail, the club's national newsletter. During his tenure as editor he never missed a dead- line, he says, and received many awards from two American vintage car orga- nizations. While not on the executive anymore, he is still a member. Two years ago Mr. Bebee became more actively involved locally when he started the local Trillium chapter of the Model A Owners of Canada. Meeting the last Thursday of every month at Haugen's - Family Restaurant in Manchester, it has grown immensely. Having started with 17 families, the roster has grown considerably and now includes 49 fami- lies. The owners of Haugen's, Sam and Debbie Tzountzouris, are both Turn to Page 25 I ----------.
