PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" RIE BR RRR RE EEE ONT TITRE ==, RH Ma LT ia FRIDAY, JUNE 9, 2000 - 3§ There's no lack of excitement at the local speedway this year Racing season's returned to full speed at Mosport One month into the Mosport Speedway sched- ule, all of the rust is gone and the action on the track can only be described as no less than frantic. Aided by a heat win on Saturday night, West Hill's Terry Shaw has now taken over the lead in the ThunderCar standings. Claiming the second of the 10 lap dashes Newcastle's Brian Strawn who also went on to earn the checkered flag in the 20 lap feature event, his first feature win. Following Strawn to the line were Oshawa's Doug Wills and John Smith (#55). Dave Crowther and Terry Shaw rounded out the top five. The Motor City's Bob Kish made up for some early season misfortunes as he powered on to claim his first Challenger division feature win of the year. Starting from the back of the field, Kish moved into the lead of the feature on lap eight and held off all challenges leading track newcomers Mike Poulton and Rick Santagato to the Beware of false tax cards: RCMP The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have issued a cautionary warning last week regarding a scam in Ontario involving phoney tax exemption cards. The CCRA, formerly known as Revenue Canada, and the RCMP are urging the public and businesses to be weary of anyone selling tax exemption cards, or using them. Cards from an orga- nization calling itself the International Humanity House claim to give the card holder an exemption from fed- eral and provincial taxes. These cards are fraudulent, have no basis in tax law, and give the holder no tax- exempt basis, say CCRA officials. Applicable taxes must be paid by the card holder and col- lected and remitted by the business. Businesses that accept the card will be held responsible for paying the applicable taxes that should have been collected at the point of sale, Questions can be directed to the CCRA at 1-800-959-5525. was line. Long time Mosport competitor Glen Fricker, from Pontypool, finished the 20 lap sprint in fourth place. Six caution periods slowed the 20 lap open wheeled Modified feature race but surviving the car- nage to claim the win was defending series champion Darrin Wrigglesworth. Early race leader Rod Sauder was forced to settle for the run- nerup position just slightly ahead of the Brown Brothers, Dwight and Graham. Port Perry's Sauder, along with Wrigglesworth, Dwight Brown and Adrian Foster (#27) had taken heat wins in the evening's preliminary activities. Defending Late Model champion Brad Corcoran spent his Saturday repair- ing his #50 Monte Carlo that he had damaged Friday night at Speedway. Obviously his efforts were successful as the Milton resident outdu- eled the Late Model field to claim the victor's laurels in the 25 lap feature event. Kawartha Chasing Corcoran to the line were Smithville's West Lee Talons (#21) and Aurora's lan Bourque. Joe Mallette earned fourth place points, edging out track visitor, Rob Howard. Scugog Island's Grant Edwards had led.the Late Model field for several laps but spun out of the lead in turn two, eventually finish- ing in a charging eighth place. The racing divisions see- ing action next weekend at Mosport will be the ThunderCars, the Modifieds and the Late Models. On June 17 the CASCAR Super Series will be the headlining event with the Challenger class offering the support. 2000 FORD F-150 XLS SUPERCAB Or Lease For 36 month lease $2,995 Down Payment Plus $980 Freight and $375 Security Deposit PLUS a Value Added XLS Appearance Package: * Polished Aluminum Wheels » Colour-Keyed Door Mouldings * 60/40 Cloth Split-Bench Seats L Built Tough WIE B11 I!
